Government Law
Schenck Price’s Government Law practice group has a long history and broad experience in representing government entities.
Our attorneys have represented the State of New Jersey, State agencies, counties, colleges, utility authorities, municipalities and land use boards in a wide variety of litigated matters. We frequently represent government entities, officials and employees in tort, contract and regulatory matters. Our experience in tort defense regularly included auto and premises liability, government officials liability, police practices, civil rights matters and employment matters, including LAD and whistleblower cases. As a result of our extensive experience in these matters, we are often appointed as special counsel and serve as panel counsel for several insurance companies in this area.
Our representation of government entities includes extensive experience as general counsel to state institutions, colleges, county entities, municipalities of all sizes, utility authorities and land use boards. Our general counsel experience and knowledge benefits our clients in all areas of administration, governance and legislative aspects of government, including OPMA, OPRA and elections. Schenck Price also advises clients on redevelopment, Highlands issues, plan conformance, COAH, and water and sewer utilities.
Our Government Law team has extensive experience representing governmental entities with contractual disputes, union negotiations, employee discipline, civil service and PERC issues. Where needed, we work closely with our litigators, who have extensive experience defending public entities.
The same knowledge and experience our attorneys use in representing public entities, gives us a significant advantage in representing companies and individuals in all areas of governmental, regulatory and administrative law. This includes development and redevelopment issues, as well as regulatory matters before the NJDEP, NJDCA, Division of Labor, Division of Taxation and other relevant agencies. Additionally, Schenck Price attorneys regularly appear before the Office of Administrative Law regarding a wide variety of government issues.
